I mean, most people are terrible designers, but if you try to explain interior design in a way that doesn’t piss them off, even if they can’t understand the concepts, they may not see it as a problem.
Interior designers need to understand the concepts of space, proportion, and perspective. If you want to teach an interior designer how to design interior spaces, you have to start somewhere. There is a long list of interior design books out there that focus on design and decorating to a degree that is not possible for a person who is just starting out.
With interior design, we start by talking about space. The rooms are designed to fit the space, it’s not just the size of the walls and ceiling; it’s the shape, proportions, and placement of items. We want the furniture to be as comfortable as possible while still being functional.
